Hiking Havasupai Part 5 Day 1

When you get into the village, you pay for your camping & mules that hauled your stuff in at the Museum.  They will take cash, but prefer credit card.  The cost of camping from Mon-Thur was $101.  It cost approx $139 per mule which would carry 4- 35lb bags, packs or duffle bags.

There is a general store...very expensive.  One cup of coffee, orange juice & Grandma's Oatmeal cookie cost me $6.32.  A box of Rice Crispy's $9.32.  There is a post office, school, helicopter landing (my 2nd favorite place) and a cafe.  All the food is fried in the cafe.  I had ordered some tater tots thinking I would get the Sonic size of 8, no for $3 you get the whole bag fried on a plate.  Enough to feed 6.  I didnt have the Indian Fry bread I thought that would be too much grease.

From the village to the campground is 2 miles.  All in river sand.  It was the hardest part of the trip.  You are worn out by then.  I definitely should not have sat at the cafe for an hour, I should have kept going.  However that being said, it's also the most beautiful part of the trip.  Now you get to see some of the falls.
1.5 miles from the village you come across Lower Navajo Falls, it was created in 2008 flood.  There is now an upper Navajo which you cant see too well from the rd.

Now you keep going another 1/2 mile and you come to Havasu Falls, which is at the edge of the campground.

Hiking Havasupai Part 4 Day 1

I had not hiked 10+ miles in one day ever...so that being said I had no idea how much water I would consume in one trip.  It is very important for you to know you own bodies requirements...
The church you pass by to go to the Campground

What you see going into the village.

I believe this is the Mormon Church?

Two of the healthiest animals in the village

Hiking Havasupai Part 3 Day 1

My favorite site of the day - I had hiked 7 miles & had 3 to go.

Just outside of down the trail intersects with  water.  Everyone needed a break & some had to soak their feet  & nurse their blisters.  This is where I realized I had drank 2 liters of water!

Hikin Havasupai Part 2 Day 1

When you are on the trail it's important to give way to the mule trains, they will run you over.
We had just gotten to the bottom of the canyon in the last photo.  From here on out, you are walking on river bottom ie sand, shale & river rock.  You really dont notice how far you have walked or are going to have to walk because you get caught up in the scenery.

Me!

Here we are entering the canyon & the walls just tower over you!

Hiking Havasupai part 1 - day one 10/8/12

Let me just start by saying this is something I have wanted to do for a very long time.  I love hiking around Phoenix, I do my best to get to Thunderbird park at least once a week, but needless to say when it's 112+ it's a little hard to get motivated to hike.  I will say I am not in the best shape of my life and you will understand that when I get to the end of my photos.

Sheila & Lee Ann
We stayed the night in Seligman @the Romney, it was not a four star resort, but ok.

Sheila, Jordyn, Mckenna & Shannon
We left Seligman and arrived at the trailhead about 9 unpack all our gear for the mules & horses to take to the campground for us.
Then we all posed for our group photo and the descent to the canyon.  The top of the hill is gray & high desert.  It is definitely not prettiest part of the Grand Canyon.  If you ever decided to do this trip you must do the hike in once.  It's the only way you can experience how beautiful & majestic it really is.  You have to walk into the canyon to really understand how large it is .

We did some scrapbooking yesterday, I need to get photos to paper.

I will be posting all our Supai photos & some helpful tips if you decide to make the trip yourself.

Anniversary

Today I thought I would share something personal.  Frank and I met at Mr. Lucky's 20 years ago today.  I guess you can say it was love at first sight.  We dated off and on for the first couple of months and by Jan of 1993 we were pretty much living together.  August of 1993 we move to the house we currently live in.

November 2006 Frank was involved in a pretty serious motorcycle accident at work.  He was test riding motorcycles for Harley-Davidson.  I knew he would loose his medical benefits really soon, so we decided to get married.  September 2007 we got married in Rocky Point Mexico.  I wanted a sunset wedding on one of my favorite beaches.

Who says dreams don't come true...

Challenges

Recently Paper Crafter's Corner had a week long postings on "Challenges".  I've been addicted to challenges lately because the stretch my imagination & make me be creative.  Sometimes when I have a "workshop" that has everything figured out for me I loose my ambition to explore different ways of doing things.  Then again when it's all laid out on those days when I just need to get something accomplished it completes the task quickly.
Please check out this article and hopefully it will explain "Challenges" for you and inspire your creativity.  http://papercrafterscorner.com/blog/13-reasons-to-participate-in-paper-crafting-challenges/

Sparkle N Sprinkle's August Challenge is this sketch & here are the two cards I came up with.  The Hedghog is for my Great Niece Hannah's Birthday.  I hope she likes it.

My third challenge this week was from an e-mail from my friend Joyce Alenski's asking if I had tried to color the inside of my embossing folder with ink & then emboss it....the answer was no, so I gave it a try.  I hope she likes the outcome!
