Spare Room Remodel

It's finally complete. It has been a tough couple of months.  The room is approx 11 1/2' x 13 1/2' not a large room at all...that is until you start to remodel it from ceiling to floor.

I started out at the end of November by removing all the old tan carpeting.  That took a day, took off the tack strips etc.

I have to give credit to my neighbor Lester Barnes.  He has been my mentor thru the whole project.  I told my husband this was my project & he was assisting, however he was a huge help on the electrical end.

I waited till after Christmas to start the rest of the project.  First came the popcorn ceiling removal.  NO big deal it was off & in the trash in 4 hrs.  I then took off the baseboards & found a huge hole in the side of the concrete dry way.  It still grosses me out.
This room like the rest of the bedrooms did not have any overhead lights or ceiling fan.  It is on the north west side of the house & can become quite hot in the summer.  Frank helped me cut holes in the ceiling & run new electrical for a new ceiling fan & track lighting over the closet.

Once the electrical boxes were in we had to put dry wall mud on the ceiling to give it an even surface to put the texture coat on.  Needless to say we didn't do it right, so I had to do a second coat.  When Lester says smooth he means smooth.  That took a whole day & it was tough, but I got it done with great praises.  Lester was actually impressed.  I then had to prime it so we could roll on the texture & knock it down. Once the ceiling was done I then could touch up paint & start on the floor.

This was the biggest part of the project.
The floor was so damaged from the sides all the paint & stuff from construction there was no way I could stain, paint or dye the floor with out first putting on "skimcoat".  This is an interesting word.  There's blogs, YouTube videos all over, but no one mentions a brand name.  It's Henry's.  Yes the same people that make roofing products.  You find skimcoat in the vinyl section of your home improvement store.

All done!  Looks wonderful!
